NetSentinel

NetSentinel (or network SSD)

If you are using a NetSentinel, then you should have already installed and configured the NetSentinel at the server according to the directions in the “Installation/Upgrade Guide for SIMS Server Version 6.12” manual.

Configuring the client workstation for finding the NetSentinel

If you are using a NetSentinel over a TCP/IP network, and you did not specify the NetSentinel address when you installed the SIMS 6.12 Client, then you may need to edit the “SIMS.INI” file to configure the client to “find” the NetSentinel.  You can double-click the “SIMS.Ini” Notepad icon in the SIMS Client Program Group or open it using Windows Explorer.  The SIMS.Ini file is in the “\SIMS6\Client” folder.

Semicolons are “comment” indicators in the SIMS.Ini file.  Adjust the file as follows:

Change the NetSentinelLocation to be the IP address of the machine where the NetSentinel is attached (typically the SIMS Server).  The file should look something like this where “999.999.999.999” is replaced by your server’s IP address:

[NetSentinel]

NetSentinelLocation=999.999.999.999

NetSentinelSearchTimeOut=5

NetSentinelSearchRetries=5

If you are not using TCP/IP, then change the NetSentinelLocation to be “Network” like this:

NetSentinelLocation=Network

The NetSentinel will be searched using the IPX protocol,  the NetBIOS/NETBEUI protocol and the TCP protocol.
